Co-ord Sets
- At least one co-ord set that can be worn as a matching look or split into separates
- Set pieces checked for compatibility with the rest of your palette — a set only earns its efficiency if both halves work independently too
Care and Longevity Checklist
- Washing and care instructions read before the first wear, not after a mistake
- Linen pieces washed on a gentler cycle where possible — creasing is normal and part of the fabric's character, not a sign of damage
- Repairs (a loose button, a small seam) handled promptly rather than letting a good piece slide out of rotation
- Seasonal storage planned so pieces aren't crushed or forgotten between wears
Red Flags Checklist
A handful of signals reliably mean a piece doesn't belong in a capsule wardrobe, however appealing it looked in the shop:
- It only works with one other item you own
- You bought it for a specific one-off event rather than regular rotation
- The colour doesn't sit within your chosen two-or-three-tone palette
- You've already owned it for a season and reached for it fewer than five times
The Final Test
Before adding any new piece to the list, run it through one question: will this combine with at least three things I already own? If the honest answer is no, it isn't a capsule wardrobe piece yet, however much you like it on its own.
Seasonal Adjustment Checklist
- At least one heavier-weight piece identified for cooler months, in the same core fabric and palette as the rest of the wardrobe
